Singer, vlogger, and actress Alex Gonzaga was named Phenomenal Artist of the Year at the MOR Pinoy Music Awards of radio station MOR 101.9 yesterday. Known for her 2018 hit song “Chambe Chambe,” Alex excitedly posted about the award on Instagram.
“Sa dami ng comments na natanggap ko na ‘walang kwenta,’ ‘kung wala ate niyan, wala ‘yan,’ at ‘jologs,’ I already accepted na siguro ganoon talaga ako kaya nag-enjoy na lang ako sa kung ano mang mayroon ako. But I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I could receive an award like this! Everything is really possible with God. In this gloomy weather, I just want to let you know na the things you think are impossible because of what the world is telling you can actually happen when you just trust God’s timing and plan.”
The dance song’s title is based on one of Alex’s nicknames for her nephew Seve, the son of her sister, Toni Gonzaga. She thanked “Chambe himself,” the radio station, and everyone who helped her with the song. “Mababaw sa iba ‘to, pero nakakaiyak talaga. I share this award to all the jejes [at] heart out there!”
In March, Alex also won Promising Female Recording Artist of the Year for “Chambe Chambe” at the prestigious 50th Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Awards. Prior to releasing her 2018 hit, Alex came out with the album I Am Alex G. in 2015 and headlined “AG from the East: The Unexpected Concert” in the same year.
