Viva N Diva, an Indian designer label that makes traditional wear, has enlisted acid attack survivor Laxmi Saa as its newest campaign model. A suitor threw acid at Laxmi when she was only 15, after she rejected his offer for marriage.
In an interview with the BBC, Laxmi shared that she wanted to inspire women like her to have confidence and courage regardless of how they look. "This was also a platform for me to send a clear message to criminals that women will not lose courage even after they are attacked with acid to destroy their physical beauty," she added.
Viva n Diva hopes this campaign will help people understand that beauty is more than just about physical appearances.
"We wanted to capture [beauty in a different way]—remove any speck of being a victim from those eyes and give them a stage, an employment, a platform, a medium to flaunt it with style," explained Viva n Diva co-founder Rupesh Jhawar.
