Having grown up with social media, it's not uncommon for Gen Z to feel burnt out or "tired" of scrolling through social networking apps. This is why it's important to do a social media ~detox~ every once in a while to reset your brain and protect your mental health. One of the biggest advocates of this is Andrea Brillantes, who stressed the importance of this in her recent press conference for Beautederm.
According to her, one must not be too dependent on certain things like social media. "Never ka dapat maging too dependent sa isang bagay. Masyado na kasing naging dependent ang generation ko with social media—nakakain na rin kami ng social media,” she noted.
The 18-year-old actress shared that she recently took a break from social media. "Nag-detox ako sa Messenger, sa Facebook. Umiwas lang ako for a bit. Tapos, bumalik din ako. Minsan, kailangan mo din na humiwalay sa mga bagay na na-o-overwhelm ka para maging mas healthy ka as a person."
She explained that since we spend most of our time scrolling through our phones, it would be beneficial to take a break every once in a while and turn our attention to more important things.
"Social media detox can really help. Kasi minsan, hindi natin alam kung gaano na tayo naaapektuhan ng social media ngayon, eh. Kasi naiintindihan ko, wala naman tayong magagawa. Nasa kwarto lang tayo. Ano pa ang gagawin natin kundi mag-TikTok, mag-Instagram, mag-Twitter. Pero we can workout. We can read books. We can talk more with our family members. We can create a new hobby, we can learn a new instrument," she explained.
Andrea also mentioned the importance of having a strong support system that keeps her grounded whenever she gets too overwhelmed with social media. "It’s very important to keep close contact with your friends to keep you sane, and to your family members," she added.

In the same press conference, Andrea also talked about "almost quitting" from showbiz. "Actually, it was never 'I almost gave up.' I wanted to, but I kept on fighting," she stressed. "It was mostly my mom who wanted me to give up. Kasi siya na yung nahihirapan para sa akin."
"Pero ako yung inilalaban na, 'Hindi, eh!' Ito lang yung pangarap ko ever since I was three years old. And artista na ako nung seven years old ako. So ito lang yung alam ko sa life. Dito ako lumaki. Ito yung buhay ko. So kahit pabigay na ako, inilaban ko pa rin talaga,” she pressed on.
