Bela Padilla is very much looking forward to working on her new movie project, Miracle In Cell No. 7.
The movie is a remake of a 2013 South Korean comedy-drama film about a man who is wrongfully imprisoned for murder. Because of the bonds he forms with his cellmates, they help smuggle his daughter into prison.
In July 2019, Viva Artists Agency announced Nadine Lustre would be starring in the Filipino remake, alongside Aga Muhlach. Later in the same month, Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) spokesperson Noel Ferrer announced that Nadine “begged off the project due to medical concerns and her resulting inability to perform her duties as an actress during the shoot up to the promotion of the film,”
Speaking to ABS-CBN showbiz reporter MJ Felipe, Nadine clarified that she withdrew from the project to take some time off work, having done two movies this year and a show for ABS-CBN.
In an interview with Bela at the media conference for her television series Sino Ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa, she shared that it was not the first time that she was not the first choice for a project. "Kahit yung 100 Tula Para Kay Stella hindi naman ako first choice." she revealed.
Bela's totally game to do the movie, of course, especially since she's a big fan of Koreanovelas and Korean movies. "I really believe it's what you bring to the project," she told reporters. "I'm very happy to take over the role."
A big fan of Aga, Bela shared that there's a certain "magic" in him, which she felt during a recent look test for the movie. "Kahit look test lang, he sparks something onscreen," Bela said. "I was watching his videos na siya lang muna mag-isa and amazed na amazed na 'ko. Wala pang lines, humahanga na 'ko."
In the same interview, Bela wished Nadine well and said she hopes they get to work together someday. "I hope whatever she's going through at this point in her life, she goes through it well and easily."
Bela recently won a Kapisanan Ng Mga Brodkaster Ng Pilipinas (KBP) Golden Dove Best Actress award for her role in "Anting-Anting," an episode of Maalala Mo Kaya. She's also working on another project with JC Santos.
