In only a span of two days since setting up an account for donations, Bela Padilla was able to surpass her initial target of P1 million, and instead raised P3.3 million! In light of the enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila which suspended work and enforced strict home quarantine for all due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kapamilya actress shed light on the street vendors whose livelihoods have been drastically affected by this change.
"The best solution I came up with is for us to donate," she wrote on Twitter on March 16. "I set up an account, and whatever money we do raise, let's spilt 16 ways for the 16 cities of Metro Manila affected by this community quarantine. I will personally see to it that the money we raise will go to the right people."
On the night of March 18, Bela announced on her social accounts that she reached her target of P1 million and will use the money to buy basic necessities for the vendors. "We hit the target of 1,000,000 pesos!!!! Thank you!!! Looking for the best deals for food now and hopefully be able to deliver everything this week! THANK YOU," she wrote on Twitter.
She then revealed the exact amount she initially raised—P1.3 million—on her Instagram Stories and announced that she already closed her GoGetFunding page for donations.
But just this morning, March 18, Bela woke up to even better news: She just received a P2 million donation, with the total amount she raised being P3.3 million. Just. Wow.
Thank you, Bela! And continue spreading the love, everyone!
