We Need To Talk About Betty’s Pole Dancing On 'Riverdale'

This post contains spoilers about the Riverdale episode, “Chapter Twenty-One: House of the Devil.”

Archie took his shirt offa loton this week’s Riverdale. He said the L-word to Ronnie, who couldn’t say it back (what, she’s not there yet, okay?). Anyway, that little problem and their multiple sex scenes aside, Varchie also went on a little murder mystery adventure, which, TL;DR, led them straight to Mr. Svenson, the creepy janitor from last week’s episode. Turns out, he’s the only surviving member of the family the Riverdale Reaper murdered years ago and changed his last name from Conway to Svenson after the tragedy, which yes, took place at the exact same house the Black Hood sent Betty that one time.

Speaking of Betty, Dark Betty made a grand return, thanks to a little visit to the Whyte Wyrm. In an attempt to further understand Jughead, Betty had chat with Toni and told her she wanted to be “Serpent Adjacent,” to which an old lady at the bar said, “If you wanna join the club, you gotta do the dance. The serpent dance.” Enter: Dark “Serpent Adjacent” Betty, who performed a little strip tease on stage while singing that Donnie Darko song at F.P.’s “retirement” party. Yes, F.P. is out of prison now, and while we’re here, let’s all give a round of applause to Alice Cooper, who accompanied Betty and Jug for F.P.’s release and delivered the episode’s best line: “Is it true what they say about men who’ve just been released from prison, F.P.? That they’re incredibly sexually frustrated?”

Anyway, back to Betty. Riverdale has never been short of surprises (I see you, bloody zombie deer on the border of Riverdale and Greendale), but there’s something unsettling about seeing a high school student do what Betty did at a business that’s probably serving alcohol to underage kids (and former Serpent Alice Cooper, who loves her tequila).
