As any lifetime Britney Army member can tell you, 2007 was a forgettable chapter in the book of Britney Spears. It was also the year one of the most iconic Britney lines of all time—“It’s Britney, bitch”—was introduced to the world via the first catchy seconds of “Gimme More.” Nearly a decade later, it looks like the contents of that year are still pretty blurry, so much that Britney can’t remember the origins of “It’s Britney, bitch.”
As Perez Hilton first reported, Britney recently spoke to 99.7 Now’s Fernando and Greg about the phrase and incorrectly gave credit to will.i.am., who didn’t work with the singer until 2013’s “Scream & Shout.” When the hosts asked who came up with the iconic phrase, Britney said, “I really don’t remember. I really think we were in the studio and me and Will were just playing, and it came out.” Either this is an honest mistake or Britney has a theory that will.i.am. is actually Keri Hilson, who actually did work on “Gimme More.”
Britney is, of course, easily forgiven. The woman just celebrated her 35th birthday and had to work, for crying out loud.
