Catriona Gray is facing criticism from some netizens.
On May 7, the beauty queen posted on Instagram throwback photos of her arrival in Thailand in 2018, the year she would win as Miss Universe.
"And just like that, it's @missuniverse season again!" Catriona wrote in her post. "Seeing all the arrival looks so I'm reminiscing my own arrival look in Thailand (Definitely one of my favorites!) Who are you all cheering for?"
The post drew mixed reactions from her followers, with some accusing Catriona of not showing her support for the Philippines' 2020 contender, Rabiya Mateo.
"I haven't heard any support coming from you for our Rabiya?" one netizen said.
"Si @piawurtzbach best in support kay @rabiyamateo," said another. "Pero ikaw deadma lang hahaha tapos na eksena mo; siya naman, okay?"
Catriona replied to one comment which read, "REALLY??? You're a Filipina, instead of cheering for @rabiyamateo, you ask people who they are cheering for?"
"I'm a Filipina AND a Miss Universe," Catriona said. "It's a celebration of women from all over the world."
Catriona also responded to another comment, which now seems to have been deleted.
"You can at least show support to Rabiya even just through your Insta Story. We know Pia has shown her support!"
Catriona replied, "I've reached out to @rabiyamateo throughout her journey privately. Not everything is on display on social media."
Rabiya joins 73 international beauties in the 69th edition of Ms. Universe in Florida, USA. Amid the pandemic, the candidates entered a "bubble" as the competition officially began on May 9, Sunday. Rabiya flew to the U.S. in April to attend pre-pageant activities.
The Miss Universe 2020 coronation night will be broadcasted live on May 16 (May 17 in Manila).
