2019 will be remembered for many happy, exciting things, like pregnancy announcements, cute new couples, and adorable celebrity spawn being welcomed into the world. But it will also go down as the year of the celebrity split. Miley and Liam, Bradley and Irina, Adele and Simon, Jamie and Katie, Brody and Kaitlynn, pretty much *all* the Love Island gang... you get the idea. If you want to see the full list of famous faces who have called time on their relationships this year, read on.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Miley and Liam took everyone by surprise when they split just eight months after exchanging vows at her home in Tennessee. Fans were in for another big surprise when Miley started hooking up with Brody Jenner's ex Kaitlynn Carter just days after the split news surfaced. The "Wrecking Ball" singer is now dating Cody Simpson.
Adele and Simon Konecki
After three years of marriage, the "Hello" singer and husband Simon announced they were separating in April. Adele has always been notoriously low-key about her private life, and a statement simply said: "Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly."
Lady Gaga and Christian Carino
Just before Gaga and Bradley Cooper's headline-grabbing A Star Is Born Oscars performance, the singer split from talent agent turned fiancé Christian. They secretly got engaged the previous November. Sources said at the time "there's no long dramatic story" behind the break up despite rumors suggesting Gaga and Bradley's chemistry played a part. ICYMI, Gaga later completely shut down the rumors, saying their Oscars performance was all "orchestrated."
Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk
After months of speculation surrounding their relationship, the pair officially parted ways in June following four years together. According to a source, the actor and model almost split during the release of A Star Is Born, but were "advised against it."
Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter
Brody and Kaitlynn broke up less than a year after they flew to Indonesia for their unofficial wedding ceremony. In an essay penned for Elle magazine, Kaitlynn said the pair eventually grew apart. "He became my best friend, and together we had all the fun the world had to offer," she wrote.
"Eventually though, after years of constant 'excitement,' we found we'd done as much growing apart as we'd done growing up. He was quite possibly the most beautiful man on the planet, with a heart of gold and a tireless sense of adventure."
Solange Knowles and Alan Ferguson
Solange announced she had split from music video director Alan in early November. Beyonce's younger sister and music video director Alan first met 11 years ago and tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in New Orleans in 2014.
She told fans: "11 years ago I met a phenomenal man who changed every existence of my life. Early this year we separated and parted ways, (and tho it ain't nan nobody business) I find it necessary to protect the sacredness of my personal truth and to live in it fully just as I have before and will continue to do."
Ovie Soko and India Reynolds
It was looking so good for this Love Island couple post-villa, but the pair ended up splitting in October. Addressing the breakup, India told MailOnline: "Obviously it's difficult, but any breakup is difficult. It's even more difficult when it's in front of the rest of the world, but I'll be fine. I'm lucky I've got a really close group of girlfriends, they've been really looking after me."
Camila Cabello and Matthew Hussey
The singer and Essex-born dating coach dated for more than a year before calling it quits in June. Around the time of the breakup, Camila released the steamy video for "Senorita" with Shawn Mendes and we all know what happened next. The following month, fans spotted the two singers kissing in Florida.
Laverne Cox and Kyle Draper
The Orange Is The New Black star and boyfriend of almost two years Kyle Draper took a trip to Splitsville in June. "After much soul searching and tears from both of us, we have decided it's time for us to go our separate ways," Laverne wrote in a heartfelt message to fans.
"We know our relationship meant so much to so many people, especially trans folks, giving them hope that this kind of love is possible for them as well. That hope, the hope for love has not waned for me in the face of this breakup but rather is fortified."
Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea
Less than three months after leaving the Love Island villa, Amber and Greg split. According to reports, Greg dumped Amber via text. Ouch.
"So, we're mad about each other, what's not to be mad about? She's gorgeous, smart, funny personality, she's the Queen of Love Island for a reason," he told RTE's The Late Late Show. "But you need to be realistic about the situation. She lives in the UK, every brand wants to work with her, every event wants her there, of course, she deserves all of it and I decided to come back to Ireland and do my thing here."
Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx
Katie and Jamie's love story goes back to 2013 if rumors are to be believed. Earlier this year, they attended a string of public events and looked smitten. But in August it was reported they were over and had, in fact, split all the way back in May.
"It ran its course. This industry is very tough on relationships," a source told People at the time. "Jamie thinks Katie is an incredible human being. They had a very, very deep connection. They brought each other a lot of joy and laughter."
David Harbour and Alison Sudol
The Stranger Things star and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actor went public with their relationship during the 2019 awards season and were last spotted on the red carpet together in April. They're thought to have broken up in July.
And in a relationship we never saw coming, David has since moved on with Lily Allen.
Sam Claflin and Laura Haddock
Peaky Blinders star Sam and The Capture's Laura were married for six years before announcing their split in August. "Laura and I have decided to legally separate. We will move forward with nothing but love, friendship, and a deep respect for one another whilst we continue to raise our family together," they said in a joint statement.
Christina Hendricks and Geoffrey Arend
Christina and fellow actor Geoffrey announced their separation in October following 10 years of marriage.
"12 years ago we fell in love and became partners. We joined our two amazing families, had countless laughs, made wonderful friends and were blessed with incredible opportunities," the Mad Men actress shared.
She added: "Today we take our next step together but on separate paths. We will always be grateful for the love we've shared and will always work together to raise our two beautiful dogs."
