Charlie Dizon's breakout film, Fan Girl, is set to hit global streaming platform Netflix on Thursday, June 17. And naturally, the 25-year-old rising star got all sentimental over the milestone. Just last weekend, Charlie posted a bunch of never-before-seen pics from when they filmed Fan Girl, and revealed that the day she posted, June 12, was the exact date she auditioned for the film two years prior—on June 12, 2019.
Gushing over her film's success, she wrote, "Exactly 2 years ago, I auditioned for Fan Girl and now it has made its way around the world and in a few days, it will be streaming on Netflix. Blessed beyond words. Thank you Lord."
ICYDK, Charlie was given the Best Actress award for her role in Fan Girl at the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival awards night! Fan Girl swept the major categories, including Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director.
Another fun fact about Fan Girl: Charlie was not the first choice to play the lead role in the film! For those who've watched Fan Girl, Charlie truly embodied the role of Jane, a teenaged fan teetering on the edge of fantasy and reality when she finally meets her ultimate idol Paulo Avelino. But according to the film's director, Antoinette Jadoane, the production had already chosen their leading lady, but due to conflicts in her contract, the unnamed star had to back out from the project.
"Yung first leg nung auditions, may napili na kami. From 670 girls, we trimmed it down to 20 tapos naging 10 tapos naging seven. Yung seven na 'yon, pinag-acting workshop namin sila, tapos yung last was a workshop with Pau para makita namin yung chemistry. Pumili kami ng isa. Sa last minute, there were contract problems so she had to back out," direk Tonet said.
Because of so many delays and setbacks, the production had to send out another call out for auditions and, finally, found their Jane in Charlie. "Naka-set na kasi yung first shooting day namin, hindi na namin pwedeng mabago kasi tatlong beses na kaming napa-pack up for one reason or the other. Siyempre yung budget lolobo. Madalian, na-call kami ng one more leg of auditions. Doon pumasok si Charlie."
It really does look like Fan Girl was ~written in the stars~ for Charlie! Congrats!
