Julito Vitriolo, the executive director and spokesperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), announced that they plan to make drug testing a requirement for all incoming college students.
"Vitriolo pointed out that the move would be an important pillar in the pronouncements of President Rodrigo Duterte to have 'drug-free campuses' in the country," reports Philippine News Agency.
In a press briefing at the Palace on Thursday, December 8, Vitriolo explained, "We [are setting] up some mechanisms, not only for random drug testing but also for making drug testing as [a requirement for] admission or possibly, retention in college."
Vitriolo added that CHED is preparing higher education institutions (HEIs) for the implementation of the drug test requirement by next school year or in 2018.
