Actress Ria Atayde celebrated her 25th birthday with a Cuban-themed party at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza on Sunday night with many showbiz friends in attendance. To name a few, there were:
Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia,
Brother Arjo Atayde,
Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford,
Kiana Valenciano,
And Coldplay's Chris Martin.
Yup, you read that right. The Coldplay front man made an appearance at Ria's birthday party as he was seen hanging out by a tree near the event. It was actually the party's host Karen Kabuhat who spotted the British artist and approached him. Speaking to ABS-CBN, Karen recounted her chance meeting with Chris:
"We were starting to wrap up the event when I'm about to go down (the venue is elevated kasi) my husband pulled me down and said, 'Nandito si Chris Martin.'
"Wala na akong na-isip that time parang na-connect na lang ng brain ko na possible 'to kasi may concert sila! And there he was! Pero 'di mo talaga siya agad mapapansin kasi he was hiding beside the tree. So being the makapal ang mukha that I am I approached this guy na parang security niya if I can take photos with him. But he said it's not allowed but I'm free to talk to him.
"I asked him again if I can take a photo with him. He pointed at the guy behind us and said it's not allowed, but he's going to see me on Tuesday. From that point all I can remember was me saying, 'Oh my God! I can't believe you're here, and I'm talking to you.'"
During the night, Coldplay even wanted to join in with the band that was playing during Ria's party but had to reconsider since security would have been an issue:
"A member kasi of their party (Coldplay) requested the band to sing Coldplay songs but at one point when the band had to stop kasi nga baka i-mob siya.
"Sayang talaga sana kumanta eh no siguro if hindi kami nawindang at nag-draw ng attention he would've jammed with the band."
Coldplay is set to perform tonight, April 4, at the Mall of Asia Open Grounds.
