On May 1, Coleen Garcia and Billy Crawford happily announced they were expecting their first child, and that Coleen was already five months along in her pregnancy. Behind their smiles on their respective Instagram posts, the Kapamilya actress' pregnancy actually wasn't as positive as it seemed to the public.
In their YouTube vlog titled First Trimester Kwento, the couple sat down to reveal their experiences during the early stages of Coleen's pregnancy. First off, their child was conceived during their honeymoon in New York in December 2019. Although they didn't plan to get pregnant at that time (Coleen missed her birth control pills during their trip!), it was a pleasant surprise for them to get the good news in January 2020.
Even after going through severe allergies (which was caused by one of her medications), all seemed to be well for Coleen until she hit the second month of her pregnancy when she had a "spotting" scare. Having to go on bed rest, as advised by her doctor, led her to endure bouts of depression.
"Bigla ako nagka-spotting," Coleen shared. "I called the OB, we have to go there right away, nagpa-ultrasound, and there was a bit of blood outside of the sac. Ang tawag doon ay subchrionic hemorrhage or hematoma. It was normal daw. A lot of people have it, actually worse pa kasi yung sa akin maliit lang talaga…My OB put me on two weeks bed rest. So during that time, I took meds—I guess it helped. After two weeks bed rest, I was fine. The blood clot was gone. Everything was great kaya lang yung mental state ko really, really suffered during that time. That whole two weeks kasi I wasn't allowed to do anything but stay in bed. And pwede lang ako bumangon sa kama 'pag mag-CR lang ako. Sobrang active ako na tao, like I always have to be doing something. That's why I like to work out and everything."
She went on to detail what she went through during this low point, "I was so depressed. You know the feeling na you feel so icky, so ugly, so gross, and I just felt like a sloth lang talaga. Nakadikit lang ako sa bed. It's so easy to shrug it off na parang 'you're fine, wala 'yan, after two weeks okay ka,' but that's not how I felt during that time. Kasi I have an overactive mind to the point na minsan it's anxiety-inducing already for me. So to be in bed for two weeks, not doing anything, with anxiety, really made me feel so depressed."
Thankfully, Coleen is now back on her feet—and even working out again—after enduring those two weeks for her hemorrhage to heal. "Now, I'm just so happy that the baby is healthy, the baby is fine. So everything was fine, everything was normal," she said.
