Cosmo Online Hunk Arnold Van Opstal: One Loyal Player

A lot has been said about how athletes, basketball players in particular, can tend to play around a lot. This hot baller goes against that stereotype.

If you love featured hunk for January, Arnold van Opstal, for his good looks, hot bod, and his sweet "gentle giant" demeanor, you'll love him even more for being a loyal boyfriend. Yes, unlike the stereotypical ballers who are indeed players, Arnold proves to be a caring, thoughtful, and cheesy (in a cute way) boyfriend.

Know more about Arnold's romantic side (and the one little thing that would make him really happy!) in our third interview with him. Don't forget to click through his third batch of hot photos (like you needed telling)!

How do you know when you’re in love?

Actually, it’s complicated (laughs). I guess when you can’t stop thinking about the person and you just don’t want anyone else other than that person.

How many girlfriends have you had?

I had a girlfriend back in high school.

Just one?

Yeah, just one.

Did you date anyone else after her?

I didn’t date anyone else. (Ed's note: This interview was done before we found out Arnold is "exclusively dating" someone! But, yes, prior to her, Arnold's only ever had one other girlfriend--back in high school!)

What’s the craziest thing you’ve done for love?

I made a scrapbook with all my… I had like a hundred albums that I got and I scanned maybe a hundred photos of me as a baby, growing up, and everything. I made that for a girl for her birthday and I added a voice thing, recordable voice thing, so yeah, that’s about the sweetest thing I’ve done, I think.

What would make a girl girlfriend material for you?

For me, it’s really about personality. I mean, if we get along with each other then that’s great. I just wanna get along with the girl. That’s what makes a girl girlfriend material.

What are you like as a boyfriend?

Sometimes I’m hyper and I guess I’m friendly, I take care of the girl. I guess I have that sort of “father mentality,” like you know, I don’t want anything going wrong or something. I just wanna take care of the girl. So, yeah basically just really friendly and sometimes crazy and annoying. Protective, yeah. But not jealous; just protective.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your past relationship?

That things don’t always work out the way you plan them to. I mean, I learned that I was young and there’s no way that I can commit to a relationship when I have basketball with me. And it was a hard transition, so I had to let go of one thing for something else that I love. So, I learned about sacrifice.

Name something girls do that drives you crazy.

In a good way?

Good and bad.

When they smile a lot. You know when you’re talking to them and they have a really nice smile or really attractive in every single, possible way. Yeah, that’s probably the thing that drives most guys crazy--smile and the eyes, yeah. Basically facial expressions I guess.

What’s annoying is when you’re just trying to be friends with the girl but she keeps trying to date you, and she thinks you guys are more than friends but you aren’t. That kind of drives me nuts. It’s like, she doesn’t get the point.

What should girls just accept about guys?

That we’re just like them, we’re human beings, and we’re not perfect, you know. And since we’re guys, I guess we’re more clumsy and, you know, careless sometimes, so, patience. I mean, we grew up playing with Batman and like smashing things, while girls grew up with Barbie dolls, so we get out of hand sometimes, so be patient (laughs).

What little thing can a girl do that you'd appreciate big time?

I remember a girl buying me my favorite candy, which you can actually only get in Germany. So it was Kinder, but it was the Hippos, and it tastes really good (laughs). They’re chocolate. So I think that was really sweet, she brought it all the way, I appreciate it. When girls give me candy, I get really happy, I’m like a kid (laughs)--especially candy from my childhood.

What kind of clothes do you like seeing on girls?

I like girls who are fashionable [in general], who look good and maintain themselves, 'cause that means they care about themselves, they put emphasis on themselves. It really shows what type of person they are. You can already tell, so yeah, I like girls who dress well.

What makeup look do you like seeing on girls?

Definitely not too much makeup. Not like I’m against makeup, makeup’s fine, but I don’t like it when a girl has too much makeup on, she already looks like a doll, sort of. But if it looks au naturel, just natural, it’s fine with me.
