Cosmo Online Hunk Mike Advincula: The Hunk You Chose

Before the year ends, we're finally revealing the July 2011 hunky college athlete you wanted a solo feature of. This swimmer and video jock makes a Cosmo.ph comeback.

Last July, we featured four hot college athletes as our Cosmo Online Hunks, to mark the start of UAAP season and as a treat for our dear college readers. We also challenged you to show us which of the four is your fave by viewing his page most often, promising that we would make the winner a solo Cosmo Online Hunk before the year ended. Well, you have spoken, and the most popular college athlete among our July Cosmo Online Hunks is Mike Advincula, who returns to Cosmo.ph for a full month as our December 2011 Online Hunk!

This is probably Mike's year, because he also won this year's MYX VJ Search, making him a certified video jockey--and TV celebrity! He went from being the De La Salle University campus heartthrob to the "crush-ng-buong-bayan," now that he's seen on the popular local music channel. He already graduated from DLSU last October, and we're sure we'll be seeing more of him now, not just on TV, but also when he puts his business skills to good use, just like his idol Marvin Agustin.

Get to know what's cooking for Mike when you read the interview below, where he shares his biggest dream since he was a kid. Don't forget to click through his first photo gallery, where we dressed Mike up as the sexy, debonair hottie he is--looking completely different from the sporty hunk you saw last July.

How does it feel to be getting all this newfound attention?

Well, it feels different because ever since, you know, my whole life has been focused on swimming and school, and now that I’m part of MYX, aside from being seen on television, you know my friends recognize me as a VJ now and other people recognize me as a VJ so it’s quite different but fun at the same time.

What has changed in your life since you became a MYX VJ?

Well, my schedule, because [when I won I was] still studying in La Salle taking up my master's degree in Entrepreneurship. That was twice a week and now in-add ko pa 'yung MYX, which is dagdag sa oras. So 'yun, schedule, schedule talaga.

What do you think is the best part of this whole VJ experience?

Well, the best part for me is that I’m employed now (laughs), so I’m earning, I’m earning, and at the same time marami akong nalalaman sa industry, and you know, the different perks na rin such as getting to watch the different bands, getting to present them, getting to talk to different artists, so yeah, it’s fun.

How does your girlfriend feel about the hype?

Well, ever since sa competition pa lang, my girlfriend has been 100% supportive, as in minsan she’d be willing pa nga to drive for me, South to North, she’d be willing to get me the stuff I need, so she’s been supportive. Hindi nagseselos, 'yan 'yung importante. Hindi siya nagseselos.

Have you had any crazy fan experience yet?

Well, so far wala pa naman. You know the fans, they make kulit on Twitter or Facebook. I mean, that’s under control naman, wala pa namang wild na nangyayari (laughs). Well, we’ll see.

What are your plans for the next few years?

Well ako ever since, I’m not 'yung tipong plan guy, I just take one step at a time, one sure step at a time, so we’ll see kung may different opportunities na dumating sa'kin, I’ll take it. Just as 'yung competition nga sa MYX, it was a good opportunity for me. I took it, I took the risk, and eventually it paid off. So siguro in a few years' time, I don’t know. Well, if it doesn’t work out, I could always work, but if it works out, I’d continue with MYX and tingnan natin from there.

Are you going to try to break into other areas of showbiz?

Uh, I haven’t thought about that yet. Well siguro 'yung pinaka-showbiz na mapupuntahan ko will be I’d love to do commercials, I’d love to be seen more on TV and stuff like that.

What's your biggest dream?

Well, ever since I was a kid, my biggest dream talaga was to own my own toy store pero siyempre habang tumatanda nagbabago 'yun, pero the dream is still there, to [have] my own business, not necessarily a toy store pero you know, my own business.

Do you look up to any celebrity?

Siguro, one celebrity I really idolize would be Marvin Agustin kasi celebrity siya, at the same time entrepreneur pa rin siya, with SumoSam and 'yung ibang establishments niya. I look up to him kasi business-minded siya.

What valuable lessons have you learned since you started in MYX?

One very valuable lesson is that there are times na talagang 'wag ka na dapat mahiya kasi sometimes, you know, people get too shy, they think too much about what they’re going to say or how are they are going to look to the point na, wala, sayang, hindi na nila nailabas 'yung kailangan nilang ilabas. So because of MYX, I learned na I just have to show who I am and just, you know, show what I can give. So ayun, it worked out.

What are the five most important things to you right now?

Siguro first and foremost, siyempre my family. I want them to be happy no matter what, sa lahat ng ginagawa ko, gusto ko happy sila. And of course, there is God. I have to make it a point na kahit ano'ng nangyayari sa'kin, I would never forget God because without God, hindi mangyayari ‘to e. Third would be my health, that’s why until now I still swim and I go to the gym pa rin, and 'yun, importante 'yung health and fitness ko. Fourth would be work. Now that I’m working for MYX, I have to do my best all the time and you know, make the most of it na rin. And last would be school (laughs).

Keep your Wednesday warm and exciting as we show you Mike's hot set of photos. Watch for his second batch of photos and interview next Wednesday, December 14!
