Yup, Darna won't be *flying* anytime soon. In a statement released today, ABS-CBN announced: "The rights to Darna remain with ABS-CBN as it decides to postpone the film indefinitely after careful deliberation on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the movie production and cinemas."
"We are committed to following production guidelines under the 'new normal' and the safety of the actors and production team is a top priority. However, because the movie requires complex logistics, crowd shots, and fight scenes that involve physical contact, it will be difficult to give justice to the superhero film while strictly adhering to the guidelines." The company thanked the cast, staff, and production crew for their hard work.
Filming for the superhero movie started with Jane De Leon as the iconic character and with Paulo Avelino as her leading man in January 2020. It was supposed to be directed by Heneral Luna director Jerrold Tarog. Just this week, PEP reported that the movie already cost film company Star Cinema P140 million. Prior to this announcement, Darna also went through several casting changes.
