Videos of Filipina Jennelyn Yabu singing impeccably in Korean have been making rounds on social media.

You might think that it’s just about her impressive vocal cords and how perfectly she pronounces Hangul (the Korean language), but it’s more than that. If you haven’t seen any of her videos, you’ll be surprised to find that in one of the verses of her songs, she suddenly belts out in Filipino! She translates the song to her mother tongue and shows it off for South Korea to hear on the new show, Topgoal Rhapsody.

Jennelyn is from Mindanao, Philippines and she married a Korean. They currently reside in South Korea.

Jennelyn told Cosmopolitan Philippines that she joined Topgoal: Rhapsody because she has loved singing ever since she was a kid but she was never given the opportunity to join a competition here in the Philippines.

Before Topgoal Rhapsody, Jennelyn joined MBN Channel’s Voice Queen in 2019. The show was open only to married women or moms. According to her, she was the only non-Korean on the show. This time, however, is different. Topgoal Rhapsody’s premise is for contestants from different international backgrounds to sing flawlessly in Korean and to translate a song verse in their native language.
