HBO has made loyal Game of Thrones fans wait longer than usual for season seven, which isn't set to premiere until July 16 (in the past the show has come out in March or April). The one upside to this predicament is that it leaves plenty of time for you to read the books, rewatch the old seasons, and comb through cast and crew interviews for clues about what's to come. Below, everything we definitely know will happen once Daenerys and the boys—Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal, of course—roll up to the Westerosi coastline.
1. All the main characters will be in Westeros.
This has never happened in the history of Game of Thrones. Since season one, people have been scattered throughout Braavos, or Vaes Dothrak, or Meereen, etc. This is most important with regard to Daenerys, who has never set foot in Westeros during the events of the show. But as shown at the end of last season, she's on her way with her ships and her dragons, so Cersei and company better get ready.
2. Things are going to happen fast.
Several cast and crew members have confirmed that the slow pace of past seasons has been replaced with something much more intense. "A lot of things that normally take a season now take one episode," Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister, told Entertainment Weekly. Showrunner Dan Weiss also says it's not just because the show is nearing its end. "Things are moving faster because in the world of these characters the war that they've been waiting for is upon them," he told EW.
"The conflicts that have been building the past six years are upon them and those facts give them a sense of urgency that makes [the characters] move faster."
3. The Great War is here.
4. The White Walkers and dragons are probably going to meet.
"There are White Walkers and dragons and once they start to come together the story has to go where it goes," said co-executive produce Bryan Cogman in EW. Also, never forget that the title of the book series is A Song of Ice and Fire. Ice. Fire. Ice zombies. Fire-breathing dragons. You get it.
5. The dragons are now the size of 747s.
Director confirmed this to EW back in March, and added that Drogon's flame is 30 feet in diameter. Hope the people of Westeros brought their flame-retardant suits!
6. And they're going to fight in the aforementioned war.
I mean, duh.
7. Yara Greyjoy is going to make out with Ellaria Sand.
This is in the trailer, so it's not a spoiler. What's still unknown is whether or not this is a kiss born of trickery or mutual interest. It's totally feasible that Yara and Ellaria actually like each other, but since Ellaria has been to known poison people via kissing, Yara would be better off staying the seven hells away from her lips.
8. Missandei is going to remove Grey Worm's shirt.
This is also in the trailer, and I can only hope it means that these beautiful little gems are finally going to get the TV-MA sex scene they deserve.
9. Ed Sheeran will make an appearance.
I have no further comments on this subject.
