In reaction to bashers saying she only looks pretty with makeup, Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados removed her makeup on national TV. “Why not?” the newly crowned beauty queen said on Tonight With Boy Abunda. Veteran host Boy Abunda said, “Sa tinagal-tagal ko sa telebisyon, this is the first time that a beauty queen actually takes off her makeup in front of me on national television. What a girl!”

Regarding criticisms about her Q&A skills, Gazini said, “I appreciate the criticism because I know there’s so much to learn and improve in myself. The first step is accepting it and then innovating it. Ang ayaw ko lang is when those bashers go below the belt.”

Gazini, who will be fighting for a back-to-back win at the next Miss Universe pageant following Catriona Gray’s win, said, “Someday I hope that we can all unite and be diverse at the same time because we’re all unique in our own ways. Sana magtulungan tayo—this is for the Philippines.”
