Out of all the K-pop concerts I've been to since 2016, there are a few that has made a permanent residence in my head. Some allowed me to be *this close* to my bias while others mark a ~beautiful moment in my life.~ I'm adding another memorable K-pop event to my favorites list and this time, I'm filing it under the "Most Unique" category!
I remember hearing from a conversation that if there's an event that we shouldn't miss this year, that would be Hallyuween 2022. As the first K-pop Halloween party in the Philippines, there's more to it aside from the outstanding performances: Fans can dress up, there will be food and drinks, prizes are up for grabs. They said that it's going to be a fun-filled night for every fandom. And Hallyuween 2022 sure didn't disappoint! For starters, just look at the stage:
Partnered with a stellar lineup of performers (and a swarm of ~zombies~ to really give it that feel), Hallyuween 2022 was both one-of-a-kind and one for the books.
Before we get to the main event, my work friend and I were first invited to the press conference. We got the chance to meet all the artists, namely Lady Gagita, Lady Morgana, BGYO, Gaho and KAVE, PENTAGON, KARD, Epik High, DJ Soda, and CL. They shared their own spooky stories, plus what made them decide to join Hallyuween 2022. The celebs were also asked if they were willing to be a part of Hallyuween next year to which they all replied yes (YAY!). Tablo of Epik High remarked that even if there's no invitation, they will still be present! As fans, we screamed internally.
Now for the Hallyuween 2022 concert, let me break it down into each artist's set:
Here come the drag queens
It's my first time seeing drag queens and I was truly amazed by Lady Gagita, Lady Morgana, and Minty Fresh's electrifying performances! Now I want to watch Drag Race Philippines. The three opened the show by introducing the ~evolution~ of drag and performed "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston, and "Break Free" by Ariana Grande. It was such a good opening for Hallyuween 2022 because everyone was hyped.
A beautiful night with Gaho and KAVE
I'm a huuuuge fan of Gaho, so imagine my thrill when I saw him and his band KAVE live! They started their set with the *motivational* crowd favorites "Start Over" (from Itaewon Class) and "Running" (from Start-Up), both of which shot them into fame. But surprise surprise, there's more to Gaho and KAVE than their K-drama OSTs—their performances of "Beautiful Night," "Right Now," and rock cover of BLACKPINK's "How You Like That" are solid proof that everyone should stan them.
It's time for PENTAGON to shine
Ask any avid K-pop fan if they know PENTAGON's "Shine" and they will say yes. The LSS-inducing song ranked high on music charts and when they performed this, the audience all danced to the creative choreography! The K-pop boy group ended their set with the chart-topper but prior to "Shine," they wowed Universe (their fandom) with "Feelin' Like," "Sparkling Night," "Beautiful Goodbye," and "Call My Name."
BGYO is just like a magnet
As the only P-pop act in the lineup, BGYO totally defined their status as the "Aces of P-pop." I witnessed a world-class act right there—a quintet who can catch your attention and make any Filipino proud. The boys had everyone clapping to their live performances of "The Light," "The Baddest," "Kundiman," and "Magnet."
Ring the alarm for KARD
There's just something about KARD's discography that will make you say. "OMG, this song feels familiar!" Their no-skip tracks are ALL bops, from "Ring The Alarm," "Oh Na Na," "Don't Recall," "Bomb Bomb," "RED MOON," and "Dumb Litty" which they performed during Hallyuween 2022. While reading tweets about the event on Twitter, one fan said that she's going to start listening to KARD after attending the concert. Yup, that's how good they are!
Everybody loves Epik High
It's 2022 but I'm still obsessed with the 2012 song "Don't Hate Me" by Epik High and if I'm going to be honest, I was really expecting them to perform it during the concert. And they did! I remember singing "Everybody hates me but you love me and I love you" at the top of my lungs since I waited for this *moment.* Tablo, Mithra Jin, and DJ Tukutz also sang "NO THANXXX," "Burj Khalifa," "One," and "Born Hater," and I swear, it really felt like a party during this set. The hip-hop trio also interacted with Filo High Skools (their fandom) and threw a signed shirt at them! By the end of their part, I realized why they're named Epik High—it's because all of their performances will give you an epic kind of high.
All hail the baddest female
As expected, Hallyuween 2022's headliner set the stage on fire with her presence and it's evident by the audience's screams! CL started with a quick intro of 2NE1's "I Am The Best," which, BTW, made me feel all sorts of emotions as a Blackjack (the group's fandom). IDK whether to scream, sing, or cry so I did all—I was just so happy to be breathing the same air as the queen of K-pop. She's really at the top of her game while performing "Spicy," "HWA," "The Baddest Female," "Chuck," "Doctor Pepper," "Lover Like Me," and "Hello Bitches"! CL even went down the stage to interact closer to GZBs (her fans) and after her perfs, she awarded the best dressed and gave her speech. She thanked everyone for attending the concert and said, "Manila, thank you so much for coming out tonight. I hope to see you very soon. For my tour, hopefully, right? Thank you for all the love, the energy, and this beautiful night." Thank YOU, queen!
DJ Soda, drop the beat
The renowned DJ ended Hallyuween 2022 with her remixes, making the event a true party experience. Not only that, DJ Soda also danced to some songs along with the crowd while wearing her superhero outfit! This includes Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and BLACKPINK's "Pink Venom."
See you at the next Hallyuween!
