After months of speculation, it looks like James Reid is pushing through with his upcoming series with Nancy McDonie of MOMOLAND.
The series, called The Soulmate Project, is one of the many projects shown in ABS-CBN's omnibus plug for its 2020 offerings.
The trailer was released on January 13 and showed snippets from the story conference of the series that was formerly titled Soulmate.
The Soulmate Project is a series presented under the "pagsasanib pwersa ng ABS-CBN at iWant" part of the omnibus trailer.
It is not clear, however, if the series will be streamed exclusively on iWant, or aired simultaneously on TV.
This is because the omnibus trailer had separate parts for ABS-CBN's TV and digital offerings.
iWant also posted the omnibus trailer of ABS-CBN 2020 offerings, and indicated that The Soulmate Project is one of iWant's upcoming projects.
During the October 4 story conference, it was announced that Antoinette Jadaone will direct the series produced by Dreamscape Entertainment.
The story conference was held on the same afternoon when MOMOLAND and their manager, MLD Management, inked a co-management contract with ABS-CBN.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Antoinette explained that the production format of The Soulmate Project is a canned series. This means all episodes are already finished before getting aired, similar to American and Korean TV shows.
The Soulmate Project is slated to run for 13 episodes.
Antoinette, who will also write the series, explained, "Hindi siya teleserye. It's a series because it's 13 episodes. It's not like how we do teleseryes na you do it per script every day, with a weekly script.
"It's more my kind of process. I write the whole series na tapos na, unlike in teleseryes na hindi mo alam kung kailan siya matatapos."
After the story conference, fans of James and Nancy dubbed their tandem as JaNcy.
On the day of the story conference, James took to Twitter to share his excitement about the project.
The singer-actor also asked some fans to stop creating "love team names" because, according to him, he already has one, which is JaDine, referring to his love team with real-life girlfriend Nadine Lustre.
A month later, in November 2019, PEP Alerts' Cabinet Files reported that the production staff of The Soulmate Project was disappointed with James.
According to the source of Cabinet Files, James was thinking twice about pushing through with the project.
The source also said that the production staff of The Soulmate Project was also upset with Nadine, since she was one of the reasons why James had second thoughts about doing the project.
However, James, Nadine, and Dreamscape Entertainment kept silent about the report.
A few weeks later, when James was asked about The Soulmate Project in a press conference, he refused to give details.
He only said with a smile, "I can't say too much about that right now, I'm sorry."
On January 1, 2020, PEP Alerts's Cabinet Files reported that James and Nadine broke up due to "irreconcilable differences."
Dreamscape Entertainment and ABS-CBN have yet to reveal more details about The Soulmate Project.
The ABS-CBN 2020 omnibus plug released the other titles to be released on its digital streaming platform, iWant.
The Dreamscape Digital-produced shows Call Me Tita and Mga Batang Poz will each have a second season.
Call Me Tita, released in 2019, is top-billed by Angelica Panganiban, Mylene Dizon, Cherry Pie Picache, Joanna Ampil, and Lorna Tolentino. It tackled the story of five middle-aged women.
Mga Batang Poz is about four men living with HIV, portrayed by Awra Briguela, Mark Neumann, Paolo Gumabao, and Fino Herrera.
The internationally-acclaimed movie, Quezon's Game, featuring the life story of Manuel L. Quezon portrayed by Raymond Bagatsing, will also be released on iWant.
Julia Barretto and Tony Labrusca will top-bill a romance digital series called I Am U, while Sam Milby and Yassi Pressman will be paired in a crime series titled The Tapes.
