Jasmine Curtis-Smith, who turned 25 years old in April, is starring in a new thriller called Maledicto, Fox Philippines' first original Pinoy film.
Jasmine plays the role of Sister Barbara "Barbie" Vergel de Dios, an idealistic nun who helps a female student (Miles Ocampo) when she appears to experience demonic possession. Sister Barbie teams up with a cynical priest named Father Xavi Lavezares (Tom Rodriguez), who's also an exorcist.
On May 2, 2019, Jasmine expressed her disappointment and confusion after several cinemas refused to screen their film—and local movies in general! The actress has been trying to book block screenings for Maledicto, but two malls told her team that they don't screen local films anymore unless they're part of the Metro Manila Film Festival. Another mall said that the rest of their cinemas were already reserved for a well-known international franchise film.

Jasmine also posted a series of videos on Instagram Stories, saying, "Naguguluhan lang ako or naco-confuse, kasi bakit yung mga local malls, ayaw nila i-screen kahit na fully-paid yung mangyayari para sa block screening?"
"Nalulungkot rin ako siguro kasi panahon natin 'to lahat para magpakita ng support but instead, pinipili ng mga local cinemas ang isang international franchise film. I have nothing against this franchise, but I guess we can all agree that this [international] film will last in the cinemas for the next two or three more weeks. Meanwhile, yung mga local films natin minsan isa or dalawang linggo lang."
