JC De Vera Heats Up Your TV Screens, Anne's Sis Jasmine Curtis-Smith In First Soap

The TV adaptation of popular '90s film Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum premieres on TV5, starring one of your fave hunks and showbiz's newest sweetheart. See photos of the cast here!

Did you catch the premiere of the newest primetime TV5 drama last Monday night, September 12? The much-awaited television adaptation of the 1991 blockbuster film Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum, one of the biggest productions undertaken by the network, finally made it to our screens.

The aksyon-serye stars former Cosmo Man On Fire JC De Vera and newcomer Jasmine Curtis-Smith (yes, the younger sister of Cosmo cover girl Anne Curtis) in roles originally played by Robin Padilla and Vina Morales. JC portrays a misunderstood con artist named Ben, who encounters a young heiress named Bing in Australia (incidentally where Jasmine and Anne hail from) and learns that their lives are inexplicably bound.

The young cast is completed by Rainier Castillo, Jay Manalo, Ara Mina, Arci Munoz, Carlo Aquino, Regine Tolentino, Jef Gaitan, IC Mendoza, and more in this new take on a classic, Robin Hood-inspired tale. Besides the stellar cast, another unique element of the show is how it's shot in various locales, like Baguio, Tagaytay, Binangonan, and even Sydney, Australia!

Cosmo met the cast recently at a press conference held at the Bayanihan Center in Mandaluyong City. Most of the stars of the show were there to answer questions about the preparations they made and the production. JC revealed that he went through intense Mixed Martial Arts training, something he was into even before the show, to get into character as a modern action hero. He said in a statement, "Marami silang makikitang bago. Kakaiba rin ang type of action scenes na makikita nila rito."

The crew played a video message from celebrity big-sis Anne Curtis, who spoke of how proud she is of Jasmine for completing her first showbiz project. Original leads Robin Padilla and Vina Morales also sent inspiring messages that had them passing the torch to the next generation of actors to tell the socially-relevant story of Ben and Bing.

Do you think the show will become as popular as the original film? Let us know in the comments what you thought of the premiere episode! Then, launch the gallery to see photos from the presscon of Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum! We're sure you've missed JC!
