Comparisons are unavoidable in the showbiz industry, but what happens when an artista is asked to choose between two actresses—and one of them happens to be her own niece?
In an Instagram post of Claudine Barretto's from March 3, a user asked: "Miss Claudine, sino mas magaling na umarte as an actress, si Julia Barretto o si Julia Montes?"
Claudine replied: "JULIA MONTES OF COURSE."
Netizens were quick to ask whether this was ~truly~ Claudine's opinion or if this was her answer because she's still "mad at her niece." Other IG users agreed with Claudine, expressing their wish to see her and Julia Montes in a project together, while there were those who disagreed and said that Julia Barretto is the better actress.
One commenter said: "Why would you ask Claudine that? Please be respectful. Alam mo naman sagot diyan. You are provoking Claudine and it is not nice. Let her heal."
In October 2019, the Barretto family made headlines when a scuffle broke out between the sisters—and their children—during their father's wake. In a radio interview shortly after the incident, Claudine shared that during the commotion, Julia shouted curse words at her and hurt her physically. She even addressed her niece, saying, "You were the one who laid your hands on the person who you call 'mama.'"
Julia Montes' latest teleserye is an action drama called 24/7, where she plays the role of Mia, a single mom and security guard "who will do everything to save her son from dying from a new strain of dengue." Julia is also set to star in the series Burado.
Julia Barretto, meanwhile, is currently starring in the iWant TV series I Am U. She plays the role of Elise and Rose, two girls who look exactly alike. During an interview in October 2019, Julia said that I Am U has similarities to the 2014 movie Gone Girl.
