It's been two weeks since Squid Game premiered and the Netflix thriller continues to be a trending topic around the world! The drama had everyone talking about creepy dolls, tracksuits, and honeycomb candies—and ofc, the actors who were part of the cast. One of them is Jung Ho Yeon, who plays North Korean defector Kang Sae Byeok.
The 28-year-old started out as a model and it was only this year when she made her debut as an actress. Squid Game is actually her first acting project, and Ho Yeon flew straight from New York after Fashion Week to do a live audition!
Because of Squid Game, Ho Yeon became even more popular. In fact, she's now the second most-followed Korean actress on Instagram (with 12.9 million followers as of writing), overtaking Song Hye Kyo. Daebak.
Ho Yeon's loved ones can't help but express their joy after she rose to fame, including her longtime boyfriend, Lee Dong Hwi (of Reply 1988 fame). ICYDK, the couple has been dating since 2015 and their love for fashion brought them closer together.
In an interview with Herald Pop via Soompi, Ho Yeon shared that Dong Hwi is "very proud" of her and the success of Squid Game. She also described him fondly and mentioned how he supports her: "He’s also an actor, he’s a good senior, a good friend, and a good person. He cheers me on a lot, and he worries for me as well. He’s sort of like a dad." Awwww!
