Contrary to what many people think, the K-pop industry is not all glitz and glamour. The life of an idol is no easy path and there's a long journey that they take even prior to debuting. It can be a challenge or a risk since there seems to be no perfect formula for reaching fame and success.
Each year, we get to know new K-pop idols as they finally get to debut after all the years of being trainees. But aside from them, familiar names are also giving attempts to re-debut either because their former groups have disbanded or they want to give their aspirations a second try.
Let us get to know some of the K-pop Idols who re-debuted in another group:
1. Kep1er's Choi Yujin - CLC member
First on the list is someone who has experienced debuting in two recent K-pop generations. Choi Yujin first debuted as a member of CLC in 2015. Eventually, she joined the Mnet survival show Girls Planet 999 where she placed third. It became an opportunity for her to debut in Kep1er where she is currently assigned as the leader of the team. As talented as she is, Yujin will shine no matter what group she's in.
2. CIX's Bae Jinyoung - Former Wanna One member
After his participation in Mnet's Produce 101 Season 2, Bae Jinyoung debuted as a member of Wanna One. From being a shy boy who joined the reality show, Jinyoung transformed into a confident man who puts the stage on fire every time he's performing. We saw his growth from his trainee days to becoming an idol and of course, we are all for it! As a current member of CIX, we love that Jinyoung is doing great and we can't wait to see more from him and his group.
3. KARD's Jeon Somin - Former APRIL member
Somin debuted *thrice* and she's definitely born to be a K-pop star! She started her career back in 2012 when she debuted as a member of the Japanese girl group, Puretty. For a short time in 2015, she became the leader of the K-pop group, APRIL. Lastly, Somin has found the right place for her when she debuted in the co-ed group, KARD, under DSP Media.
4. WEi's Kim Yohan - Former X1 member
Prior to becoming an idol, Yohan is a Taekwondo athlete. He then joined the survival show Produce X 101, where he later on ranked first place and debuted as a member of X1. Despite the group's short promotion, it still cemented Yohan's career. He soon re-debuted in the boy group, WEi. Aside from being an idol, Yohan also became an actor and appeared in several dramas like School 2021 where he got the main role. Multitalented, indeed!
5. AB6IX's Kim Donghyun - Former MXM member
Originally debuting as part of the duo MXM in 2017, Donghyun re-debuted and is currently a member of AB6IX. Prior to MXM, he is known as a trainee who also participated in Produce 101 Season 2. Despite not making it to the final group, Donghyun is a proof that all dreams are possible and will happen at the right time. From visuals to talent to personality, he is definitely idol material.
6. IVE's Ahn Yujin and Jang Wonyoung - Former IZ*ONE members
Before we knew Yujin and Wonyoung as members of IVE, they were part of IZ*ONE, the popular group from the survival show, Produce48. These two equally talented and beautiful ladies have achieved many milestones together. Now, that they're in IVE, we can't stop bopping to "Eleven" and "Love Dive" and the chemistry among all members is ~*wonderful*~!
7. VIVIZ's SinB, Eunha, and Umji - Former GFRIEND members
After the unexpected disbandment of GFRIEND in 2021, SinB, Eunha, and Umji returned to the K-pop world as a three-member girl group called VIVIZ under BPM Entertainment. The trio might be reinventing their career as rookies but undeniably, they have already built their position in the industry.
8. AB6IX's Park Woojin and Lee Daehwi - Former Wanna One members
Joining Kim Donghyun in AB6IX are former members of Wanna One, Park Woojin and Lee Daehwi. They kickstarted their career when they joined Produce 101 Season 2 and they were chosen to debut in Wanna One, along with CIX's Bae Jinyoung and eight other members. Continuing their successful idol career, Woojin and Daehwi certainly fit their current group as two talented maknaes who specialize in producing, dancing, and rapping. Of course, they can also sing very well!
9. TEMPEST's LEW and Hyeongseop - Formerly Hyeongseop x Euiwoong
Another Produce 101 Season 2 alumni are TEMPEST's LEW and Hyeongseop. From joining the survival show together to promoting as the Hyeongseop x Euiwoong duo (also known as Yuehua Project), these two have shared many joys and challenges in their journey. On top of that, they remain inseparable. Finally, they debuted as members of the boy group, TEMPEST, where they have found new brothers to share the next chapters of their musical ride.
