Listen up, KathNiel fans, 'cause our faves will be back on the small screen with a new teleserye! What makes this one extra special, though, is that its concept is written by their good friend, actor-writer Juan Miguel Severo. Gege, as he's fondly called, penned the acclaimed film Hintayan Ng Langit (2018) and the hit BL series Gaya Sa Pelikula (2020). He most recently worked with KathNiel and indie-folk group Ben&Ben for the emotionally wrecking music video for "Sa Susunod Na Habang Buhay". (Still not over this one, tbh.)
On January 13, Gege confirmed the news of his latest project by posting a screenshot of the draft of the yet-to-be-titled KathNiel serye, dated December 21, 2020. Writing on Twitter, he said, "Panahon na naman ng pag-ibig."
While not much has been revealed about the upcoming show, we do have some important deets that y'all ought to know. So, read on below!
What's KathNiel's new teleserye about?
Back in December 2020, ABS-CBN revealed its lineup of new shows and movies for 2021 in an ~omnibus~ trailer titled Together As One In 2021. Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla's much-awaited comeback to primetime TV was one of the projects announced in the trailer and is described as "a romantic series about experiencing timeless love." This ~time~ aspect was further emphasized in the video's VO: "Experience a timeless love. Dadalhin kayo nila Kathryn and Daniel sa isang romantic journey through time. Kaya mo bang ipaglaban ang inyong pag-ibig kung galing kayo sa magkaibang panahon?" Ohhh, interesting, right? From this alone, we're hoping to see elements of time travel, fantasy, and maybe some science fiction!
Gege actually delved into sci-fi when he wrote the screenplay for Ben&Ben's "Sa Susunod Na Habang Buhay", which is about two lovers being stuck in a time loop. Kathryn and Daniels characters repeatedly go through the glorious moments of falling in love, grieving over a miscarriage, losing themselves in their relationship, and dying in the sea. Heavy stuff, yeah. So, this new serye of theirs is already something we're definitely keeping tabs on!
When and where can we watch it?
There's no exact airing date yet for the show, but we're sure it'll be dropped within 2021. We can watch the new KathNiel series on these platforms: iWantTFC, KTX.PH, SKY PPV, TFC IPTV, and Cignal Pay-Per-View. Stay tuned for updates!
