*November 2021 Update*
2020 has brought us some of the best K-dramas we've ever seen, and this includes JTBC’s Itaewon Class. The Park Seo Joon-led series introduced us to a captivating plot, the breathtaking views in Seoul, and diverse characters including the feisty Jo Yi Seo, played by rising star Kim Da Mi.
Although she’s a newcomer in the drama industry, Da Mi has already made a name for herself with her impressive performance in Itaewon Class as a highly-intelligent social-media star-slash-sociopath.
Here are facts about Kim Da Mi that you absolutely need to know:
1. She is 26 years old.
Da Mi is an Aries and was born on April 9, 1995. When she celebrated her 25th birthday, Da Mi received so much love from her fans all over the world in the form of flowers, presents, and heartwarming greetings. Just like what her cake says, Da Mi is indeed one amazing human being. <3
2. Kim Da Mi's childhood dream was to be an actress.
Back then, when she announced her acting plans, people questioned her because she didn’t have any charms. Instead of sulking all day, Da Mi watched a lot of TV shows during her childhood and would splash water under her eyes, pretending to ~fake cry~ when it's playtime. Now look where she is now!
3. Her first lead role in a K-drama was in Itaewon Class.
Okay, we also can’t believe this—we mean she was outstanding in Itaewon Class! Da Mi flawlessly portrayed Yi Seo that everyone remembered her as that girl with a blond dip-dye hairstyle who commands attention. She even took home the Best New Actress award for this role at the 56th Baeksang Art Awards, aka the Oscars of South Korea!
4. She starred in the 2018 movie The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion as a student with a *dark* past.
You can’t miss out on this movie where Da Mi transformed into Ja Yoon, whose life seems to be at peace until someone from the past visited her and made her remember who she really is. We’ll leave the story at that, so go and watch it on Viu! And did we mention that Choi Woo Shik is also a lead actor in this film?
5. Kim Da Mi has raked in awards because of her superb acting skills as Ja Yoon.
May it be dramas or movies, Da Mi doesn’t disappoint. She was acknowledged by various award-giving bodies for her role in The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion, including the 27th Buil Film Awards as Best New Actress; the 18th Director’s Cut Awards as Female Actor of the Year; and the 2018 Asia Artist Awards as the Rookie Award recipient, to name a few. To top it off, she placed first in the June Movie Star Brand Reputation Rankings during that year! Kim Da Mi? More like Queen Da Mi.
6. At present, she’s leading the rom-com drama, Our Beloved Summer.
Guess who her partner is in this Netflix series—it's none other than Choi Woo Shik! Yup, they're starring together in a new project again and unlike in The Witch, they don't plan to kill each other, LOL! Here, Da Mi and Woo Shik play a couple who broke up and were reunited when a documentary went viral online.
Da Mi is also filming the remake of the 2016 Chinese movie, SoulMate. The story revolves around two inseparable friends and how they spent their youth with each other. In an interview, Da Mi said that she’s thrilled to act as a character from a film she personally enjoyed.
7. Kim Da Mi is actually quite tall.
Our eyes have failed us because when she’s placed next to our ultimate oppa, Park Seo Joon, Kim Da Mi appears to be short. But did you know that she actually stands at 170 cm? That’s already considered tall for women!
8. Just like us, Kim Da Mi can sleep for hoooooours.
15 hours at that. The actress revealed in a magazine interview: "When working on a production, I tend to lose sleep, but outside of that I can sleep for 15 hours if I decide to sleep long. The reason I can't sleep longer is that my back hurts." LOL, that would be us during the weekend.
9. She once stayed in her house for two weeks without going out.
What she did during that time is super relatable! In the same interview, Kim Da Mi said that she spent her time binge-watching movies the minute she wakes up and eats while she’s at it. Can we be friends with this girl??
10. Kim Da Mi graced the cover of Cosmopolitan Korea for its 20th anniversary along with K-entertainment’s biggest names.
When asked what her advice is to twenty and thirty-something women, Kim Da Mi mentioned that although we are all busy nowadays, we should take a moment, look within, and find a happy lifestyle that will fit our lives. If this ain’t true—take note of this, ladies!
Bonus: She is known by her fans for being quite ~inactive~ on Instagram.
