Over the weekend, we were able to witness how great Kim Joo Hun’s acting is in the K-drama Start-Up. While we love his endearing character as a publishing company’s CEO in It’s Okay To Not Be Okay, Kim Joo Hun as an appa (father) had us in tears. No kidding.
Joo Hun is with no doubt a versatile actor—in his roles, he can either make us laugh or cry. But we noticed that in his series this year, he's always stressed, LOL! May it be as a publisher, doctor, or aspiring businessman, you will see Joo Hun *so* frustrated that we can’t help but feel sorry for him. So far, in just 2020 alone, he has already participated in four K-dramas. Allow us to introduce you to each of his appearances:
Most Recent K-Dramas Starring Kim Joo Hun
1. Park Min Kook in Dr. Romantic 2
Watch Kim Joo Hun in a white lab gown in this top-rated medical drama where he plays a doctor competing with Doldam Hospital’s master surgeon, Kim Sa Bu (Han Suk Kyu). He becomes acquainted with the other doctors in the said hospital, including Seo Woo Jin (Ahn Hyo Seop) and Cha Eun Jae (Lee Sung Kyung). In Dr. Romantic 2, Park Min Kook is *super* serious, and would often give fierce glares to his competition during surgeries.
But behind the scenes, it’s actually the opposite! Just look at this photo of him and Kim Sa Bu:
And this one with the drama’s other cast members!
2. Lee Sang In It’s Okay To Not Be Okay
Kim Joo Hun’s most stressful job would be as CEO of a publishing company that manages the troublesome author, Ko Mun Yeong (Seo Ye Ji). He also meets the equally-troublesome Moon brothers (Kim Soo Hyun and Oh Jung Se) who would assist him in looking after her. Sang In sajangnim (boss) always cleans up after Mun Yeong’s ~mess~ not because he wants to get on her good side and gain from her, but because he cares about Mun Yeong like an older brother. Awww!
Here, you can see Joo Hun with and without a beard, which left us shocked, lol.
Meanwhile, here’s the actor with the rest of the cast (whom we miss, huhu):
3. Cha Eun Seok in Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol
Joo Hun becomes a doctor once again (but this time he's a warmhearted one!) in the rom-com Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol, who lost his zest in life because of burnout. Does this oppa really have a knack for stressful roles? We kind of think so. But good thing he has Goo La La (Go Ara) and Sun Woo Joon (Lee Jae Wook) to help him regain his motivation.
IDK about you but we think being a doctor really suits Joo Hun!
4. Seo Chung Myung in Start-Up
Okay, guys, prepare your tissues: Kim Joo Hun will make you cry in Start-Up where he transforms into a determined father to Seo Dal Mi (Bae Suzy) and Seo In Jae (Kang Han Na). Chung Myung only wants the best for his family, and so he endures the pain, accepts life’s challenges with a positive mindset, but on his way to success, he encounters a detour. Watch out for a *specific* bus ride scene in this drama and be in awe of his talent.
We’re now filing this Kim Joo Hun character under “Favorite K-drama Appas Of All Time”.
So, what's next for Kim Joo Hun? He will be starring in the upcoming K-drama We Are Breaking Up as a PR company CEO! The series will be led by Song Hye Kyo and Jang Ki Yong.
