7 Kim Sejeong K-Dramas And Variety Shows That You *Need To Watch

If you’re a fan of survival audition show Produce 101 like we are, chances are, you already know Kim Sejeong, one of the members of I.O.I, the first-ever project girl group to debut from the show. After I.O.I went their separate ways, she went back to her agency, Jellyfish Entertainment, where she debuted with fellow I.O.I member Mina in the girl group Gugudan. Fast-forward to a few years later and she's now a successful solo artist. But Sejeong isn't just a talented singer and dancer—she's good at acting and variety shows, too. 1. The Sound Of Your Heart (2016)

   This funny sitcom is based on a popular webtoon of the same name. It revolves around webtoon author Jo Seok (Kwang Soo) and the funny incidents that happen in his daily life. Sejeong makes a guest appearance as one of Jo Seok's neighbors in Apartment 205. She and her partner are noisy, so Jo Seok fights fire with fire, and we get a hilarious scene where he plays loud farting noises while Sejeong’s character is in the bathroom, making her partner think they’re coming from her.

2. I Wanna Hear Your Song (2019)
   

   Who else is in it: Yeon Woo Jin, Song Jae Rim, Park Ji Yeon

   In this rom-com mystery, Sejeong plays Yi Young, an insomniac timpanist. Only listening to the singing of a tone-deaf person can put her to sleep. She's also the witness to a murder, but she can’t remember what happened. Help comes in the form of Jang Yoon (Woo Jin), a mysterious tone-deaf pianist in the orchestra. Other members of the orchestra include conductor Joo Wan (Jae Rim) and violinist Eun Joo (Ji Yeon). All have hidden pasts that unfold as the story goes along.

3. The Uncanny Counter (2020)
   

   Who else is in it: Jo Byeong Gyu, Yoo Jun Sang, Yeom Hye Ran

   This wildly popular fantasy mystery series made waves both in South Korea and abroad. It tells the story of the Counters, a group of hunters who run a noodle restaurant while protecting the world from evil spirits. They were all comatose before partnering with spirits from Yung, the world that comes between the spirit world and the human world. When one of the Counters dies, his partner spirit possesses Mun (Byeong Gyu), a high school student who is definitely not in a coma. Sejeong plays plucky Ha Na, a server at the noodle shop. She has super strength and the ability to read memories through touch. The series became OCN’s highest-rated drama, and it has since been renewed for a second season.

4. Business Proposal (2022)
   Who else is in it: Ahn Hyo Seop, Kim Min Kyu, Seol In Ah

   If you’ve been missing Ahn Hyo Seop's handsome face from Lovers Of The Red Sky, you're in luck because he plays Sejeong's partner in this upcoming rom-com set to start airing on February 28. In it, Sejeong plays Hari, an office worker who gets tasked by her friend to go on a blind date in her place and get rejected. Hari goes to the date completely planning to behave badly, but she finds herself caught in a dilemma when she realizes her date is Kang Tae Mu (Hyo Seop), the CEO of the company she works at. Worse, he wants to get married! Can she turn things around somehow?

1. Talents for Sale (2016)
   Who else is in it: Kim Jong Kook, Lee Seo Jin, Noh Hong Chul
   
   In this fun home shopping-style variety show, the hosts join hands with their guests by making products to sell for charity. The "products" all have to do with the guests' talents, so you can buy anything from a soccer lesson from a famous soccer player to a singing class from a world-class singer. Sejeong is one of the show's MCs, and she has some memorable interactions with her co-hosts. We loved seeing her having a pretend wedding with Kim Jong Kook, and they even learn to dance "Troublemaker" together.
   
   
   
2. Baek Jong Won's Alley Restaurant (2018)

   Famous chef Baek Jong Won helms this award-winning cooking variety show. His goal is to help restaurant owners in particular alleys improve their food and attract more customers to their respective shops. The dishes will make your mouth water and want to visit South Korea ASAP! Sejeong appeared on the show as a special co-host for the first ten episodes.

3. Busted! (2018-2021)
   Who else is in it: Yoo Jae Suk, Lee Seung Gi, Ahn Jae Wook, Kim Jong Min, Lee Kwang Soo, Park Min Young, EXO's Sehun
   
   Sejeong flexes her smarts and comedic timing in this Netflix mystery show. She's a regular cast member present in all of the show's three seasons. Busted! has its cast members playing crime-solving private detectives. They unearth clues, talk to "suspects" and "victims," play games, and solve puzzles. There's a big crime that needs to be solved every season, too, including following the trail of a serial killer and discovering a traitor in their midst. It’s a fun variety show that makes you laugh while also exercising your brain. Sejeong has great chemistry with her castmates, and it's such a joy to watch them on screen.
