Here's Why People Are Freaking Out Over Kim Soo Hyun's 'Crash Landing On You' Cameo

Kim Soo Hyun's much-awaited cameo in the hit drama Crash Landing On You FINALLY happened on January 19! We've been waiting for him to show up ever since his cameo was first announced. We've also been coming up with theories: Will he be another soldier from North Korea? Will he be an ex-boyfriend of Se-ri's (Son Ye Jin)? 

Nothing prepared us for the real thing because—spoiler ahead—Soo Hyun played an *already existing* character of his: Dong-gu from the 2013 movie Secretly Greatly

In Secretly Greatly, three North Korean spies go undercover in South Korea. Soo Hyun's character pretends to be a "village idiot" named Dong-gu, but he's really an elite spy! He's known for his green tracksuit and messy hair.

At the end of Crash Landing On You's 10th episode, Ri Jeong-hyeok's (Hyun Bin) ~squad~ goes to South Korea and meets Kim Soo Hyun aka Dong-gu. He tells them, "I came here long before you did. But I haven't received any orders yet and I have been waiting all along." He acts all cool and serious, but when his boss calls him, he immediately transforms into his undercover persona again.

Crash Landing On You tells the story of a South Korean heiress (Son Ye Jin) who goes paragliding and accidentally lands in North Korea. There, she meets a soldier (Hyun Bin) who helps her get back to the South and ends up falling in love with her.
