After watching too many K-dramas, you're probably already familiar with a lot of Korean actors. Google them up and you'll discover how far they've come. It turns out some of them didn't really intend to do acting at first! Instead, they had their eyes on one thing: K-pop stardom! We wonder how things would be like if they pursued their idol career. Read on how these actors made the shift:
1. Ku Hye Sun
Before moving to K-drama land, actress Ku Hye Sun actually went through idol training at SM Entertainment then at DSP Media. She was supposed to be part of a girl group called Ria but it didn't push through. So, she moved to YG Entertainment and finally decided to pursue acting. We're so happy she did it because we couldn't think of another actress to play Geum Jan Di in Boys Over Flowers!
2. Gong Seung Yeon
ICYDK, Gong Seung Yeon is the older sis of TWICE's Jeongyeon. For seven years, she did idol training alongside f(x) and Red Velvet at SM Entertainment before considering an acting career. Her notable K-dramas include Are You Human? and Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency.
3. Ahn Hyo Seop
All the way from Canada, Ahn Hyo Seop moved back to South Korea at 17 years old. He finished college and was later on spotted by JYP Entertainment. He trained alongside GOT7 but didn't debut with them after not meeting some requirements. Luckily, the universe had other plans and Hyo Seop became interested in acting. Now he's known for starring in Abyss with Park Bo Young and Dr. Romantic Season 2 with Lee Sung Kyung! His chemistry with both ladies just makes us kilig. TBH, it's kinda hard to choose who to ship him with!
4. Lee Jong Suk
We all met this cute oppa in K-dramas like Pinocchio, W: Two Worlds, and While You Were Sleeping. But did you know he used to be a K-pop idol trainee? Yup, he trained at SM Entertainment then chose to try acting instead! It worked out pretty well because now, Lee Jong Suk is one of the most followed K-drama actors. He also recently celebrated his 10th anniversary since his official acting debut. Currently, Jong Suk is rendering military service. We hope to see him in a new drama next year. Fingers crossed!
5. Kim Min Jae
After training for four years at CJ E&M, Kim Min Jae emerged as one of its talented rappers. He even joined hip hop competition Show Me The Money 4 back in 2015. But acting still caught his attention after appearing in Persevere, Goo Hae Ra then taking on more roles in Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency and Dr. Romantic Seasons 1 and 2! Oh, and you'll also spot him as the young King Wang Yeo (aka Grim Reaper) in Goblin.
6. Park Bo Gum
While he didn't exactly train to be a K-pop idol, Park Bo Gum always dreamed of becoming a singer and even went through a couple of auditions. But he was encouraged to focus on acting instead. It definitely paid off because he has gained popularity from K-dramas like Hello Monster, Love In The Moonlight, Reply 1988, and Encounter. We're proud fans here!
