At one point or another, most of our favorite Korean stars take a hiatus from the spotlight as part of their mandatory military service. ICYDK, South Korea requires all of its male citizens to serve in the military before turning 30 years old. Delaying enlistment or "conscription" is possible, as most Korean actors have done.
Here are five Korean stars who will *come back to us* in 2019:
1. Lee Min Ho (April 25, 2019)
When he enlisted: May 12, 2017
He's back! Lee Min Ho started his alternative military service as a public service worker at the Gangnam District Office in Seoul. He was exempted from being an active duty soldier due to severe injuries he suffered in a car accident in 2006 and while shooting the drama City Hunter.
2. Ji Chang Wook (April 27, 2019)
When he enlisted: August 14, 2017
The actor was based at the Cheorwon Artillery Brigade in Gangwon Province. When he got a day off from the military, he updated his Instagram account, saying that he spent his holiday with his mom! Aww.
3. Kang Ha Neul (May 23, 2019)
When he enlisted: September 11, 2017
The actor, known for his roles in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and The Heirs, is currently serving as a military police officer of the Republic of Korea's Capital Defense Command. During his enlistment, he even took part in a musical called Shinheung Military Academy with Ji Chang Wook!
4. Kim Soo Hyun (July 1, 2019)
When he enlisted: October 23, 2017
According to fan reports, the actor served in the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, which is stationed in the ~dangerous~ DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).
5. G-Dragon (October 2019)
When he enlisted: February 27, 2018
Big Bang member G-Dragon is serving in South Korea's 3rd Infantry "Skeleton" Division stationed in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province. Ever since he enlisted, his army unit has been overrun with fan mail! His management even had to issue a statement, asking fans to refrain from sending too much of them.
