- Kourtney Kardashian was recently freaking out because her sister, Kim, told her she had a pretty big bald spot on her head.
- Kourtney, in an attempt to fix the bald spot, injected plasma into her head (yup, that's apparently a thing!).
If you weren't born with the exact hair type of your wildest dreams, you've probably learned your way around some heat tools and intense hairstyles (though, hi, can we all accept that we're beautiful with the hair we naturally have?!). But of course, excessive styling and too-tight hair looks can often lead to hair loss. Which is exactly what Kourtney Kardashian believes happened to her after she found a bald spot on the crown of her head.
During a season 17 teaser for Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kourtney was made aware of the missing patch of hair by her sister, Kim. “Kourtney, you have a really big spot on the top of your head,” Kim said. “Look down, Kourtney. Oh my god, I’m afraid for your life. Have you seen that?”
“No, but I feel it,” Kourtney replied, adding that she believes the source of her bald spot is a sky-high ponytail (à la Ariana Grande) that she wore back in February to the amFAR gala. “It’s a hole in my head. I swear it’s from my ponytail, it was so tight that I had a bump on my head like this.” In the time since, Kourtney literally injected blood cells into her scalp to hopefully help her hair grow back. I'm sorry, WHAT??
In Sunday's KUWTK premiere, Kourtney revealed that she was getting the plasma treatment done to help correct her bald spot. “Today I’m getting PRP [platelet-rich plasma], which is where they take your blood and spin it and they use your plasma and they inject it in my head for my hair to grow back,” she said.
“I definitely think that we should get some injections in there,” Kourtney’s doctor told her. “I think you probably need two or three series, maybe once a month for the next three months and I think you’ll be fine.”
PRP treatments for hair loss are considered pretty effective (patients often see a 30 percent increase in hair growth), though the results completely vary per person and how the treatment is administered. Now, I can personally never imagine getting head injections—even with my own blood, mind you—but let's be honest: Nothing stands between the Kardashian women and their beauty treatments!
