- Kristen Stewart is set to play Princess Diana in the upcoming film Spencer.
- Reactions to the casting are mixed, to say the least.
Attention all royal fans: There's a brand new movie about Princess Diana in the works, which, yay! According to Deadline, the movie is going to be titled Spencer (aka Di's last name before marrying Prince Charles) and major surprise—Kristen Stewart is set to play the coveted role of the people's princess. Some people online are just a *little* confused about the casting, but before we get into that, let's talk plot.
Spencer is going to cover "a critical weekend in the early ‘90s, when Diana decided her marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working, and that she needed to veer from a path that put her in line to one day be queen," the report explained, adding that "the drama takes place over three days, in one of her final Christmas holidays in the House of Windsor in their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, England."
So how is everyone feeling about Kristen landing the role of Diana? Well, these tweets offer up a clue:
As you can see, reactions are pretty mixed, but Pablo Larraín (the film's director) has all the faith that Kristen will excel and rise to the challenge.
“Kristen is one of the great actors around today,” he said. “To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately, very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her.”
That all said, I can't wait to see this movie come to life next year!
