Yup, after much *speculation*, Disney Philippines has confirmed that KZ Tandingan will be singing the first-ever Disney song in Filipino! The song is part of the soundtrack for Raya And The Last Dragon and is called "Gabay." It's about trust, strength, and unity, and it'll be available for streaming starting March 5.
ICYMI, Disney has been tapping Filipino artists to do covers of theme songs for their movies. Morisette Amon and Darren Espanto did a reinterpretation of "A Whole New World" for Aladdin, Janella Salvador sang "How Far I'll Go" for Moana, while Inigo Pascual covered "Remember Me" for Coco.
Here's the thing though: for years now, when theme songs are reinterpreted in other Asian countries, they're translated into the country's national language.
Here's the Korean version of "You're Welcome" from Moana...
...the Thai version of "Speechless" from Aladdin...
...and the Chinese reinterpretation of "Remember Me" from Coco:
KZ Tandingan's "Gabay" will be the first-ever Disney song that's purely in Filipino and that is seriously awesome!

Raya And The Last Dragon is an animated film inspired by the cultures of Southeast Asia. According to Disney, it's "set in the fantasy world of Kumandra, where long ago humans and dragons lived together in harmony, Raya (voiced by Kelly Marie Tran) will take us on an exciting new adventure to track down the legendary last dragon, Sisu (voiced by Awkwafina) to restore the fractured land and unite its divided people. But along her journey, Raya will learn that it will take more than a dragon to save the world."
At present, Disney Plus isn't available in the Philippines, but Raya And The Last Dragon will be available in cinemas very soon!
