It's not October 3, but every day is a good day to talk about Mean Girls. Not to be That Fan™, but Rachel McAdams and Lindsay Lohan just said they're down to star in a sequel and if that's not "so fetch" then IDK what is.
So last week, Lindsay spoke with David Spade and said, "I think I was hanging on to [Mean Girls] for a really long idea. I wanted to come back with a Mean Girls 2 with the same cast, work with Tina [Fey], and the whole crew again, and [Mean Girls director] Mark Waters...But that's all in their hands, really."
And during the Heroes of Health: COVID-19 Stream-a-thon over the weekend, Rachel said, "It would be fun to play Regina George later in her life and see where life took her!" She also added that there have been "joking" conversations about the sequel but nothing serious yet.
Mean Girls came out 16 years ago, so we're way past due for another. Yes, there was that weird 2011 Mean Girls 2 movie that got a sad 31 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but we don't speak of that one in this house!
Other cast members like Amanda Seyfried have also said they're down to do a second movie, but like Lindsay said, we're mostly just waiting on Tina Fey, who is working on a Mean Girls movie that's based on the Broadway musical, which is based on the original movie. It's a really roundabout way to make another film with the same characters, but let's hope it's just a stepping stone to making a movie with the original cast. Maybe we should do like Amanda once said and start a #MeanGirls2 campaign!
