On April 4, 2019, Liza Soberano announced that she was withdrawing from the Darna film remake due to an injury she got from filming Bagani in 2018. Ever since the announcement, Liza has been pretty active on social media (she had the prettiest photos with boyfriend Enrique Gil at this year's Coachella festival), although she has refrained from talking—or posting—about Darna.
A number of actresses have already expressed their willingness to portray the role, including Nadine Lustre and Julia Barretto. On May 1, 2019, ABS-CBN and Star Cinema announced that they would be holding open auditions for the role, so literally, ANYONE could be the next Darna now!
Liza has not spoken about the role in recent interviews, but according to a Facebook post by her manager, Ogie Diaz, the actress said, "Kung new face 'yan, Tito Ogs, galingan niya talaga, dahil sobrang laking opportunity ng Darna sa kanya. Give her heart and soul to the project, lalo na sa mga trainings at sa acting. And I know for sure, this movie will make her. 'Wag lang ikalaki ng ulo niya because hindi siya nag-start from [the] bottom. Big break agad. Kaya remain humble."
Ogie's personal opinion regarding the new Darna: A ~new~ face would really be better!
