David "Gordo" Gordon, who was Lizzie's BFF in the original series and also the 2003 film, was played by Adam Lamberg. As well as the star of the show Hilary Duff, Adam will be joining returning cast members Jake Thomas, who plays Lizzie's brother Matt, Hallie Todd who plays her mum Jo and Robert Carradine who plays dad Sam.

In a statement, Hilary shared: "Gordo was an essential piece of the puzzle to what made the original Lizzie McGuire so authentic and beloved."

Adam, now 35, has largely been out of the spotlight since his Lizzie days, with his last IMDB acting credit being 2008 film Beautiful Loser.

Excitingly, production on the show started earlier this month, with Lizzie teasing us all with a behind-the-scenes snap from set.

Alongside a picture of the McGuire family, she wrote: "We are standing in what will soon be the McGuire living room. What's up fam. We doin' this #lizziemcguire #disneyplus."

The actress also revealed the reboot will follow a 30-year-old Lizzie who hasn't got it all figured out yet. "I think to myself, where can we go? What are the struggles of a 30-year-old right now? What are the pressures that life throws in front of a woman who is 30 and doesn't have all the things yet?" the actress told E! News in early October.

"The opportunities are really endless," she continued. "Maybe at the end of the series we see her having a baby? You know, maybe it's hard for her to get pregnant? Maybe there is something bad happening on her 30th birthday in the first episode? Maybe she's going to be in her childhood bedroom in the first episode? I don't know! There's all this fun! We want to give fans what they want, but we also want to have a completely new show."
