Miss Philippines Earth 2nd runner-up Loren Artajos will replace Imelda Schweighart, who resigned from her post.
Carousel Productions president Ramon Monzon made the announcement
at a party for Miss Earth 2016 winners held at the Oakwood Hotel in Pasig City on Wednesday, November 2.
It was initially reported that Miss Philippines Earth 1st runner-up Kiara Giel Gregorio would replace the controversial Schweighart.
"However, Gregorio, a law student, was not sure if she would be able to fulfill Schweighart's remaining obligations because she is on a scholarship at the University of Westminster in London," reports ABS-CBN News.
Schweighart failed to make it to the Top 16 in the Miss Earth 2016 pageant, which culminated in the corononation night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on October 28. Miss Ecuador Katherine Espín won the crown.
The report noted that after the pageant, a video of Schweighart bashing Espin went viral.
Schweighart had already drawn flak earlier for comparing President Rodrigo Duterte to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
On Monday, October 31, Schweighart gave up her crown. She told the Philippine Daily Inquirer: "My mom is pulling me out from this mess people are getting me into. I did it myself, but it’s sad that people are doing this to me. And they are the ones calling me crazy."
Well, it turns out that Schweighart's loss is Artajos' gain.
Artajos, 25, is a nursing graduate from Laoag City. In her feature on the Miss Philippines Earth website, she indicates that she supports eco-tourism and the use of renewable energy.
