Miss Jamaica Toni-Ann Singh Is Crowned Miss World 2019

She is the fourth candidate from Jamaica to hold the title.

Miss World 2019 has named Miss Jamaica Toni-Ann Singh as its new queen. The 23-year-old women’s studies and psychology student is the fourth Miss Jamaica to hold the Miss World crown.

Miss France Ophely Mezino is named first runner-up while Miss India Suman Rao grabbed the second runner-up spot. Miss World Philippines Michelle Dee finished at the Top 12.

Miss World 2018 Vanessa Ponce of Mexico passed on the crown to Singh during the ceremony held at ExCel London, United Kingdom.

For her final Q&A, Toni-Ann was asked by British journalist Piers Morgan about the reason why she should win. She answered with: "I think I represent something special, a generation of women that are pushing forward to change the world. I wouldn’t say that I’m different from any other wom[a]n on this stage, but my passion for women and pouring into them, and making sure that they have the same opportunities that I have had is something that sets me apart."

Morgan followed this up with: "Who is the most inspiring woman to you in the world?"

To which Toni-Ann answered: "So you asked me a question to make me cry. Well, okay. The most inspiring woman to me is my mother. Now I must say if my mother and my father are the roots, and I’m the tree, then really, any work that I do, anything that I’m able to change the world...It is the fruits of their labor and I watched her pour everything into me, even at the sacrifice of her own wants and her needs, and that’s why I’m able to sit before you today."
