When Steve Harvey (you know him as the host of Family Feud) announced the wrong Miss Universe winner (he said Colombia instead of the Philippines), the interwebs exploded with tweets and memes about the epic fail that transpired.
ICYMI, here's Steve apologizing for his mistake, saying, "Okay, folks, I have to apologize. The first runner up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines!" At this point, Miss Philippines—Pia Wurtzbach—walked to the front of the stage beside the dethroned Miss Universe, Miss Colombia (Ariadna Gutierrez), and had to wait awkwardly for the next thing she must do.
15 seconds. It took 15 seconds of them looking clueless before Miss Universe 2014 Paulina Vega walked up to them, congratulated Miss Philippines, and comforted Miss Colombia by rubbing her back.
Steve then said, "Listen folks, let me just take control over this. This is exactly what's on the card. I will take responsibility for this. It was my mistake. It was on the card. Horrible mistake, but the right thing...I can show it to you right here. The first runner-up is Colombia. It is my mistake. Still a great night. Please don't hold it against the ladies. Please don't. We feel so badly. But it is still a great night. Thank you all."
Paulina then took Ariadna's crown and transferred it to Pia's head before the broadcast got cut.
We have mixed feelings about all this: We're incredibly proud and happy for Pia, who is officially the third Pinay to win the Miss U title (Gloria Diaz and Margarita Moran won in 1969 and 1973, respectively). That moment onstage was her time to shine, but who can fully celebrate when you're beside a friend who just got dethroned? Miss Colombia, on the other hand, was also an unintentional victim of Harvey's honest error. What a cruel thing she had to go through. Then there's Steve, who's never going to forget that one mistake he made because of the internet.
What's done is done, and Steve already apologized. But let's be real: who got the short end of the stick?
