Miss Universe Spain Angela Ponce didn't make it to the Top 20, but she made history as the first transgender woman to join the international competition (and forever earned a special place in our hearts in the process)!
Back in 2012, Miss Universe changed its policy that limited pageant participation only to "naturally born" women when Jenna Talackova fought for her right to compete in Miss Universe Canada. Jenna later made it to the Top 12!
During this year's coronation night, the Miss Universe organization honored Angela as its first transgender contestant. "I dont need to win Miss Universe. I just need to be here," Miss Spain declared during a recorded interview. THAT HIT US SO HARD.
Angela was honored a solo walk, where she removed her sash and received a much-deserved standing ovation from the audience and from those watching at home! Check out these reactions from the Twitterverse:
Congratulations, Miss Spain!
