On May 5, Angel Locsin's fiancé Neil Arce took to Instagram to share the actress' reaction after hearing that ABS-CBN was ordered to cease broadcast operations. In his post, we see a photo of Angel on her bed, looking at her phone. Neil wrote in the caption: "Breaks my heart seeing her like this. Angel didn't renew her contract so technically she did not lose her job. She's been crying non-stop since she saw the news online because she knows 11,000 people lost their jobs."
Neil continued: "We've been under ECQ for two months now trying to save lives. Wala pang 10,000 ang may [COVID-19] dito pero ngayon 11,000 na tao ang mawawalan ng trabaho at milyon-milyon na Pilipino ang hindi makakatanggap ng quick information and konting kaligayahan sa mga panahon na ito. NTC, you are evil. How dare you take away 11,000 jobs. We will remember this."
Over the past few months, Neil and Angel have been busy raising funds to help healthcare frontliners amid the pandemic.
The hashtag #NoToABSCBNShutdown trended on social media last night, and Angel took to Twitter to air her sentiments, saying, "Sa lahat ng nagmamagaling at nagsasabi na 'buti nga nagsara ang [ABS-CBN],' sana masarap ang tulog ninyo ngayon gabi at nakapagbayad na ng bills. Sana rin masarap rin ang mga napamalengke ninyo na ipapakain sa inyong pamilya. Sana walang magkasakit na kailangan ipagamot at gastusan."
ABS-CBN went off-air at 7:52 p.m. last night after the National Telecommunications Commission ordered the company to cease operations due to the expiry of the network's franchise. The last time ABS-CBN ceased broadcast operations was during Martial Law in 1972.
