Being an intern can be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your young adult life, especially if you work with a great team or mentor, and are able to apply the things you learn there well after your OJT. But it can also be a living nightmare—as one Paper magazine intern can attest to.
Kierra Webster was working under Paper fashion editor Paul-Simon Djite, when the latter publicly called Webster out through an email sent to a list of designers, Fashionista reports. Djite’s email contained the subject, "Intern trying to bullshit her way into shows," and had an expletive-heavy body to go with it.
"It's been brought to my attention that Keirra Webster… has been trying to RSVP for shows claiming she is my assistant," Djite wrote. He then described Webster as "an intern at PAPER, a real shit one," and even went as far as saying, "Such blatant stupidity… who birthed you keirra? they need to put you back in. you silly twat. quit your f–king around."
Djite ultimately got his comeuppance, after it was confirmed by Paper editor-in-chief Kim Hastreiter that Djite’s actions cost him his position and that he has been fired. "It was sent without authorization... it contains many comments which were totally unjustified and inappropriate," Hastreiter said of Djite’s email. Meanwhile, the editor revealed that Webster is still an intern at the magazine.
