WARNING: *Major* spoilers ahead for Episode 2 of Record Of Youth! Don't read if you haven't seen the latest episodes yet.
I'll just put it out there: We are officially charmed by Record Of Youth! With only two episodes in, we've already witnessed relatable fangirl moments of Jeong Ha (Park So Dam), were introduced to Hye Jun's (Park Bo Gum) bittersweet family dynamics, and got a peek into the not-so-glamorous side of modeling.
In last night's episode, Hye Jun got the heartbreaking news that he lost the big movie role he auditioned for to his BFF Hae Hyo (Byeon Woo Seok). So what did Hye Jun do to cope? Head on over to a norebang to sing his heart out, that's what! After rocking out to a couple of songs, we noticed that one particular song he sang sounded ~super familiar~. And it happened to be none other than BTS' "Tomorrow". Released in 2014 along with the EP Skool Luv Affair, "Tomorrow" is a song about twentysomethings who struggle to realize their big dreams. Sounds fitting for Record Of Youth, no?
In the scene, Hye Jun raps Suga's opening verse: "Same day, same moon / 24/7 every moment repeats / My life is in between / Jobless twentysomethings are afraid of tomorrow"
He then sings the first line of Jungkook's pre-chorus: "Follow your dream like breaker"
The scene then carries on to Hye Jun's friends telling him to stop pitying himself for losing the role. Hye Jun went on to say that life's been hard on him, but he finds hope in BTS' music: "I like the stories of BTS songs. When I listen to their songs, it makes me want to live a good life."
Bo Gum himself also tweeted the lyrics of "Tomorrow" after last night's ep! Along with pics of him in character in Ep2's ~fictional~ Milan fashion show, he dropped a meaningful line from the chorus: "Even in the far future, never forget the you of right now"
ICYDK, Bo Gum is an ARMY himself and has supported BTS by attending their concerts and even performing their songs in his own fan meets. He also happens to be close friends with V. Now, we wonder what the boys think of Bo Gum's ~surprise~ in Record Of Youth!
New episodes of Record Of Youth are available on Netflix every Monday and Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m.
