Have you ever found the *perfect* novel—you know, the one you can recite lines from verbatim, and if you run out of things to read, you go back to time and time again? Now imagine finding out that it'll be made into a movie. Of course you'll have opinions on the casting, screenplay, soundtrack, etc. But what if the film adaptation lives up to your expectations?
Here, we asked Pinays in our Cosmo Mixers Facebook group to share what they consider to be ~the best~ book-to-movie adaptation of all time. What would your answer be?
1. The Harry Potter series
"Although there were major moments I missed from the books, the Harry Potter series will always have a special place in my heart since I grew up with the Hogwarts students. Potterhead forever!" – Andie
"[Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone]. Super accurate nung lines, some were verbatim!" – Angel
2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy
"The Lord of the Rings trilogy Director's Cut filled in a lot of supporting facts which I can only assume Peter Jackson thought was essential from the books. Mind you, Fellowship and Two Towers last about 3.5 hours [each], while Return of the King is about 4.5 hours. Suffice to say, I binge watch these every year, and it's always worth it." – Nikki
"Emma (2020)! The movie was colorful, funny, and kilig! All of the leading lady's lovable and snarky characteristics were perfectly depicted in the film. Not to mention an A+++ dance scene between Emma and Mr. Knightley!" – Lily
4. Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List
"The book itself is really enjoyable to read, but the movie made the relationships between the characters so alive and so much more meaningful. It’s a beautiful story of friendship, navigating identities beyond your ride-or-die relationships, and romance." – Andrea
5. Pride And Prejudice
"Pride And Prejudice (2005) will forever be on the top of my list! Ugh, I cannot think of a more perfect cast to bring so much life to one of my favorite books of all time. My childhood hero Keira Knightley deserved that Oscar (still bitter lol)! But hats off to director Joe Wright who is obviously a book lover at heart for always giving justice to the source material (not all directors do so ugh). His other book to movie adaptions that I love are Atonement and Anna Karenina (also both starring Keira)." – Jacinda
"I liked Trainspotting because the original book is written in Scottish phonetics. You really need to hear it in order to put them all together! Also, if you like music, Danny Boyle's ability to piece together an iconic soundtrack is off the hook." – Ti
7. The Hunger Games trilogy
"The Hunger Games trilogy did not disappoint. I still cannot forget how they turned Katniss’ fire dress into reality." – JM
8. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
"The Perk's of Being a Wallflower. I felt like the cast gave justice to the a bit boring book because seriously not all is a fan of diary type novels. Logan Lerman and Emma Watson were wonderful to watch. And of course, Ezra Miller!" – Paola
9. A Walk to Remember
"A Walk To Remember. Iba talaga yung binigay ng tambalang Mandy Moore and Shane West! I named my pet birds Jamie and Landon." – Angel
10. Little Women
"I really loved Little Women, [the] latest two adaptations, and The Secret Garden. Haha old school." – Misha
