Police have officially closed their investigation regarding the murder of Christina Grimmie, the former Voice contestant who was fatally shot after a concert in Orlando, Florida, two weeks ago. The shooter, Kevin Loibl, took his own life at the scene.
As CNN points out, the police report for the singer's murder does not cite a definitive motive from Loibl, but it does point to the fact that many of his coworkers knew he had an "obsession" with Grimmie and often teased him for his "internet crush."
"He [Loibl] made it clear he watched everything having to do with her," his coworker and friend, Cory Dennington, told police.
Dennington went on to claim that he believed Loibl spent "most of his waking hours" either watching Grimmie's videos on YouTube or monitoring all of her social media accounts, despite having none of his own. Loibl later told Dennington that Grimmie's belief in Christianity had also made him believe in God, and that he had lost weight, gotten Lasik surgery, received hair implants, and had his teeth whitened in order to look more attractive for her.
When Dennington told Loibl it was "illogical to think he could begin a relationship with Christina Grimmie," he allegedly became "angry and defensive" and threatened to end their friendship. Loibl repeatedly referred to Grimmie as his "soul mate," and once even claimed that he'd played video games with her online, although this detail was not confirmed by police.
Other disturbing details in the report include the fact that Loibl had "an aversion to light," and covered his windows with aluminum foil in order to help keep it dark. Despite not having a criminal record, police were also once called to his family home after a domestic disturbance between Loibl and his father's girlfriend. No one was arrested following the incident.
