Prince Harry made his first public appearance since stepping down from his senior royal duties, showing up at Buckingham Palace for a rugby engagement. And honestly, it was super cute—Harry was clearly in a great mood and could be seen cracking some jokes with the kids.
Somewhat awkwardly though, the event was attended by the same royal rota (read: the royal fam's approved press pool) that Harry and Meghan have revealed they want to distance themselves from in the future. And when someone attempted to ask Harry how conversations about his royal exit convos were going, he allegedly laughed. At least according to royal reporters on the scene!
And yes, there's a video—though Harry's back is turned and honestly any laughter could have been in response to something the guy next to him was talking about—just sayin'!
As a reminder, Harry and Duchess Meghan are in the middle of finalizing a plan that'll ease them out of their senior roles and into a more low-key life in both Canada and the United Kingdom. And they have the full support of the Queen, who released a statement saying:
"Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family. Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives. It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days."
