Yesterday, Rabiya Mateo had her closed-door interview for the 2020 Miss Universe pageant. She wore a white pearl-studded blazer dress created by Iloilo-based designer Ram Silva, and she paired it with jewelry that may look very familiar to pageant fans.
If you guessed that the earrings belong to Pia Wurtzbach, you're absolutely right. The sparkly and hefty pair was what Pia wore when she was crowned Miss Universe in 2015.
Rabiya wore Pia's earrings for good luck. Before her closed-door interview, Rabiya said she was shaking, but when it came down to the big moment, she was confident. A clip posted by Dyan Castillejo on IG finds Rabiya sharing, "Everybody was so funny. They were making me laugh. And I rapped, can you imagine that? I rapped. I did an Eminem in front of the judges."
Rabiya has called Pia's earrings her "agimat." According to PEP, earlier this month, Rabiya revealed that a fortune teller had told her that she needs to borrow something from a former Miss Universe to win the title. "This is a funny story po, kasi parang may hula na sabi, 'If you really want to win, dapat manghingi ka ng gamit from the former Miss Universe."
Rabiya then decided to message Pia. She was quoted as saying, "I just want to make sure to grab that chance. At least wala kang pinalagpas na pagkakataon."
And Pia, without fail, lent her winning earrings to Rabiya! Rabiya described Pia to be "so kind." She shared, "Pinahiram niya sa akin yung earrings na ginamit niya during Miss Universe. So parang 'yon yung agimat na dala-dala ko ngayon."
